Groundhog Day 2020

The numerologists will have been having a day filled with wonder today, a unique combination of numbers - 02022020.  They get excited about numeric combinations, so this would have blown them away.
The weather today was gorgeous, definitely shorts and tees.  I'm not certain how warm it was, but I saw 25 C on the temp read out on the truck when we were driving.  Definitely one of our better days this winter.
We were up early, so I had a shower and went to the service in the clubhouse.  The pastor had a unique way of presenting his sermon today, using a real rose and a fake one in the same vase.  It was also communion today, not one of my favourite things, but it was OK, but both the wine and the host leave a little to be desired.  It was well attended and that is a good for keeping it going.
Marg did her last bit of laundry this morning while I was gone.  As I was looking at stuff in the shed for the patio sale, she came to see what I was prepared to part with.  I think she was surprised that I was ready to get rid of most of it.  Then we went out to the Mesa market where I sold 3 books and bought 4 more.  Marg wandered around in there for a bit and bought a magnifying glass.  Not just any, rather one that jewelers and coin collectors use for high magnification so they can see details especially on old or worn coins.  Its very small, and very thoughtful.  Then for a bit of a drive I took her up the road to where we rode our bikes and the spot where I phoned her from the other day, I don't believe she realized how far from home we were.  Its good for her to have an idea where we are riding.
When we got home, the neighbours to the east came over to invite us to their Super Bowl party in the afternoon.  They heard a rumour that we were selling our place and wanted to find out if it was true.  They have invited us to other parties they have had and we have gone once or twice, so they likely had a dual purpose.  Hopefully this will be the last time we have had to tell the story.  They have been good neighbours although we have not been real close to them.  They were happy to hear that Marg pretty much selected the buyers for ones that will fit in around here. They were happy to hear or our plans to return in the motorhome so wished us well in returning to Happy Hour Lane.  Shortly after that another lady across the street and down a few places came to invite us to their Super Bowl Party.  The third invite we had was to the one in the clubhouse combined with the ice cream social.  There was also a fourth party with our regular happy hour group.

Marg prepared a nice tray of humus and chips as well as a tray with peppers, some bread squares, dip, etc and finally one of those bean dips.  This we took to the fifth Super Bowl Party, held by the leader of our bike riding group.  This was a large party on the other side of the park with about 28 people.  They had 3 tv's out in the breezeway, 3 people made chili and everyone brought appies.  The hosts bought bread bowls to use with the chili, something I have not previously seen.  It was a fun group and the food was great, we certainly were glad we went to this one.  The fellow who purchased our place came by with some appies they had made, to give us a taste.  It was something unique: pork and sauerkraut in a dough ball that was deep fried.  There were several football pools that we bought squares on, but none of ours were lucky, but it was a good game tonight.
The results are somewhat mixed, but most seem to say the groundhog never saw his shadow, so there will be an early end to winter.  It seems the challenge of having more than one community with a groundhog is confusing this age old quasi-scientific prognostication for the end of winter.  I suspect it can be attributed at least in part to hold the Super Bowl on the same day, so in future the NFL should be requested to stop confusing those of us looking for accurate ground hog reporting.
