February 1st

The day started out a bit chilly when I left for Scottsdale.

That is where the Waste Management Phoenix Open has been played.  Today was the final day of play & Gerry C had a set of tickets given to him.  Traffic was light and it only took about 20 minutes from his place to the parking lot.  The service there was great, free parking and bus service to the event.  We saw some of the best, including the leaders at several holes.  We sat at the first tee to see the ones we wanted and then caught other players at various holes.  We spent quite a bit of time at the infamous 16th hole where it's like the Roman coliseum, with 3 tiers of seating completely surrounding the hole that hold about 20,000 spectators.  This is where they cheer anyone who is on and boo any player in the sand.  It's funny to watch as some of the players really try to rev up the fans and it gets loud in there.  Sometimes fans throw beer cans if there is a hole in one.  There was a hole in one on Saturday here, so the security people were watching pretty close and ejecting a few fans.  The rest would sing hey hey good by when the misbehavers were taken out.  This was the hole where Graham DeLaet [the top Canadian] came down the fairway using a Cdn flag as a cape.  We saw and followed Bubba Watson for a while, but there was at least a few thousand doing that, so we moved on.  We also followed Laird [Scotland], Matsuyama [Japan] & Koepka [Florida] at a number of holes.  They were the leaders all day and Koepka was the ultimate winner.  I was sort of rooting for Laird because of the Scottish connection.  It was a great day in the sun.
Marg stayed in most of the day and it seems her cold is getting a bit better.  She did a bit of housework and went out for a short bit, even made a great chicken pot pie for supper.  Sure hope she has made it through the worst of her sick days.  I was ready to take her to the doctor, but surprise, she wouldn't go.
While there are no cameras allowed at the event, I took some pics with the cell phone.  Alas it is not an I phone and we don't seem to be able to get the pics on to the laptop.  Too bad because there were so many Kodak moments at the TPC course.  I can only imagine what the green fees are like there.
We had invitations to several super bowl parties in the park, but with Marg not being all that well she declined.  We had a nice evening at home and got some badly needed rest.  Oh yeh it was coupon day in the Sunday paper and she clipped quite a collection of them tonight.
Looking forward to a week of nice warm weather here in the valley of the sun.
