2009/2010 Return to the sun
Dec 30th late start, but on the road by 9:15AM. Roads were icy on way to Edm. [skated thru Whitecourt] where we stopped to see mom before heading out. Back on the road thru Calgary, where we caught up to the Smith's who were destined to take off at 4:00 PM. They left Calgary at 6:00 due to a luggage problem, by that time we were beyond Cowtown. Hit snow off and on, some icy roads [before Red Deer] to keep your attention level up. Spent the nite at a lovely motel 6 in Claresholm.

Glad you are making good time.. I spoke to Grandma and she was pleased to have seen you. You made great time, can't believe you made it to Calgary before we took off.. we found out when we landed (because the same luggage problem caused a delay for us at that end... they couldn't get the bags off) apparently they had been calling for a family... that checked their bags but didn't make the gate... so they had to open the baggage to get theirs off the plane, which was when the baggage lift got stuck. Later, apparently the family showed up and their bags were put back on... causing all of us more then a 2 hour delay... by the time we got our bags, we should have been home. The drive from Manchester was alright though... and its lovely and sunny... we do miss the snow though. Doesn't seem right looking at the Christmas tree with a window behind it, with the sun shinning and green grass. Miss you... Happy New Year.
