New Years Eve

It was a rainy day and a little cooler, but we knew that for a few days before hand.  It's very seldom you get surprise weather here in the Phoenix area.  We pretty much stayed in for the morning waiting for the weather to clear off a bit as it rained pretty hard at times.  It changed to a series of small showers but hung in there all day long.
After lunch Marg went out to buy groceries and found some good deals at the Fry's store.  Apparently lots of other folks had the same idea as the store was very busy.  Lots of people picking up things for the New Years party of function, I guess.  I went to play pool, but most of the guys were at the rec centre playing crib.  There is a group that play every Saturday afternoon, although I'm not certain what the structure is, but think they each put money in for a prize.  I looked around a bit and found a pool player.  Dale & I played for a couple of hours.  He was a bit rusty to start, but when we quit I think we were pretty even on win/loss.  It was a fun way to spend the afternoon.
We had a nice happy New Year facetime with the Smith's in Birmingham at their midnight, so right around 5 PM here.  It was nice to see their family all together to celebrate first footings.
We had a supper a bit later than normal as we were going out to the New Years eve party in the rec hall, which started at 8PM.

It was taped music, but Malcolm always puts together a good variety and pipes it through the sound system.  The entertainment committee did a nice job on decorating the hall and they charged $5 per person to cover the snacks and stuff.  They also had a 50/50 draw and the winner was the person who purchased their strip of tickets just before Marg's.  The winning number was 102 & her lowest number was 105, it was like bingo all over again.  LOL.  Attendance at the party was pretty good and everyone came to party.  We sat with a good bunch and had lots of laughs.  On the way down we were having second thoughts about our decision to go, but quickly got over them when we started having fun.  We danced quite a few times, even most of a polka.  Almost gave ourselves a heart attack with the polka, but we danced our hearts out, well almost they were pounding so hard when we sat down.  We stayed until midnight and helped the crew clean up the hall.  There was to be a church service in the morning, so they had to get the decorations taken down and the room put back in order.  It was nice to see lots of other people with the same idea, so clean up went pretty quick.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone, may 2017 be a good and prosperous year for you and your family.
