Monday, March 2nd

The day broke with heavy cloud cover and a good stiff breeze.  The long forecast winter storm was making it's presence in the valley.  There has been wide spread snow and rain in the high country [above 5,000 ft], but just wind and rain at lower levels.  After we got back it rained off and on most of the day & at times rained pretty hard.
Got the bike out and there was only Larry and me riding today.  The others thought the risk of rain too great and made other plans.  It was tough riding into the wind today, so we took a modified short track. By my odometer we only made 2.2 miles, which is the shortest this winter.  In fairness riding into the wind was very demanding and we didn't want a long ride back that would be difficult to finish.  I suppose we could have taken a chance, knowing I could always phone Marg to bring the truck, but not sure we would ever live something like that down.
After I got back and had my shower, I went out to the barbers.  When I got there, it was a good decision as the only one in the shop was the barber, so got right in.  Had a nice chat with him, mostly about life in Az compared to the small village in Mexico where his mother lives.  Some interesting stuff, particularly the low cost of living figures he was throwing out.  He said electricity was about $15 for 2 months, water for the same period about $5.  When I asked about safety, he said it was fine as long as you never flashed around money, but that most people there just assume white people have money, so probably not the same as it is for Mexicans with darker skin.
Got back in time for lunch and then went to play pool.  A couple of the golf guys were there as well as a couple of others and we had a fun afternoon for a couple of hours.  Some darn good players today, but I got lucky once in a while and did OK.
Supper was a nice stew that Marg made in the slow cooker.  Lots of meat and fresh vegetables.  She claimed to like the stew she makes at home in her oven, but I liked it fine and was happy to have it.
After supper I went to play poker.  Small group there tonight with 5 players.  3 Americans and 2 Canadians, all part of our regulars.  I didn't do too bad, somewhere close to break-even.

  1. Sounds like you should be able to double those miles For the equivalent in a windy day....
