In Search of the Lost Dutchman
What a great day, about 84F today, hot & sunny.
After a big breakfast of bacon, eggs, hashbrowns we ventured down old highway 88. This is a road thru the Superstition mountains and reputedly in the area where the Lost Dutchman gold mine was. Being lost of course, no one can verify anything other than an old prospector is reputed to have come out of there with sacks of gold. Never saw him or the gold. Did see some great scenery. The road is narrow with lots of curves, a couple of one lane bridges and travels over the mountains & through the canyons. It goes through an old stage coach stop, Tortilla Flats, population 6. We stopped in and had a burger and cold beer on the patio. There was some cool country band playing. There was a stream to ford right on the highway, lots of cactus & great scenery. There was even a manhunt going on using a sheriff's helicopter. They found a car along one of the ridges and were looking for the occupants. Lots of hiking and stuff like rock collecting [aka prospecting] in the mountains.
Met up with Dave & Kathy Trout at their apartment for happy hour, then went to the Grand Buffet with them for dinner. It was great food, we will go back there. Finished up with after dinner drinks at the m'home.
