Weeping rock - Zion park

The weeping rock stop was quite the sight. Water runs off the sheer face of the canyon wall, almost like rain in some places. Right below the weeping rock the cliff is undercut and you can stand under it. It was so nice and cool there, that people were really taking their time in it.

Zion Park

Went to Zion National park today, it was an amazing place. Very steep vertical walls in most places, with the Virgin river flowing between them. Considering the heat, it & elevations, hiking the trails was challenging today.

Wildlife Sep 20th

Saw some unusual wildlife today in Zion park. Daniel, we saw several, but this lizard is the largest we today. We had one running in front of us on a sandy path, they are very quick. Also saw this little snake along the sidewalk on the way to weeping rock, not sure what kind it is, but it was pretty quick. Marg was wishing she had closed toed shoes when we came upon it. Also saw lots of fish in the creek running from weeping rock. It was so nice and cool under the overhang behind the water running off the sheer rock face.

Sept 19th

HOT, for people from GP. These southerners love it, it was 90F today, that would be 32C for you Canucks. Went for an oil change on the car today. 5 litres of Quaker State, filter & lube for $26. Picked up a few things at Walmart. Had a fuse burn out in the power point on the dash, so needed to get some to replace it. Never saw any of those people that appear in the pictures we get over the internet all the time. Got some beer, with this heat a guy has to keep cool. After that we spent the day in the rv park, mostly around the pool. It was so refreshing, swim for a while, read for a while, go for a dip. Pretty boring, I know, but that's life in the rv park. LOL Tomorrow will be an adventure day. I think we will go out to Bryce Canyon, so should have some good pics to share. I am certain there are lots on the web site, but we have not been there before. Got new next door neighbours today. A nice young couple from Holland in a rented class C motorhome. They have a little baby & took her to the pool to cool off before supper.

Travel day after all

On the road early in the morning and through the dreaded Salt Lake City before noon. Traffic wasn't too bad, although just south of the downtown it was fairly busy for about 10 miles. It takes about an hour to get through this place, at 65 mph. The construction we have endured in the north has made for pretty good going. Unfortunately the south 20 miles or so is a mess now. These guys must go to the same construction forever classes that Edmonton's guys attend. The worst part is the narrow lanes, they go to about 8 ft wide where the road is torn up. When your rig is 7 1/2 ft wide, that is a challenge when traffic gets heavy. Weather started out nice & just kept getting better all day long. Lots of rv's on the road today, I suspect lots were weekenders going home. Made it to St George, Utah. Went back to one of the rv parks we frequently stay at, Temple View. Yes you can see the mormon temple from here. Its a really nice park, very well kept up. They have all the amenities: wifi, cable tv, swimming pool, etc. This is the one we usually leave the motorhome at, in their storage lot. Will likely stay here a week and make day trips to Zion park & Bryce canyon. Probably even the north rim of the grand canyon. Hey that grand should have an 'e' on the end. LOL. Anyway we have always just been passing through here & the plan is to do the tourist thing in the area. For supper we went to Cracker Barrel, one of our fav's and had the special. It was really yummy tonight. The food there is almost like home-cooked. They serve all the unique american stuff you just hear about at home; stuff like: corn bread biscuits, grits and some of the best chicken you will eat. There is a veranda on the front & they had the mist spraying today. It's a fine water spray that really cools the area off & cools you off when you walk through it. Not much need for that kind of thing in GP, but down here they are more common than you would think. Total mileage on this trip 2,760 km's / 1,720 miles. Bugs killed must exceed either of those numbers - LOL.. One advantage of the wifi - we just found out that Craig proposed to Anna, I assume she accepted as she was just beaming in the pictures. What a happy day, our Anna is a betrothed woman. Congratulations to Anna & Craig... That calls for a dram...

Day two leaving Dillon

On the road again, stopped at Safeway for fuel. Fuel was less expensive in Dillon than the bigger cities, go figure. Good trip through the dreaded Monida pass and all the way trough Idaho. A brief stop for lunch at a rest stop and onward. All the way to Utah, no I'm not repeating the - how did this state get that name; but it starts - I tat I taw a puddy tat.

Hit a rain storm just after crossing the state line. Lots of hail in the ditch, so must have been pretty exciting. Managed to catch up with it though - pretty much a downpour. There was some hail in it, but nothing to get real excited about. Lots of cars pulled over for it, but we just slowed some and motored thru. We could see that the sky was clear beyond the storm and thought it would be more hazardous to sit on the side of the road. Anyway we are in another nice rv park in Ogden, Utah. Have not decided, but we will either drive on to the south or spend some time looking around here. Who knows might be up to joining the Mormon church, they are a great resource in genealogy. ;>) The other good thing about Utah, gas is cheaper here. I saw $3.55/gal at Flying J.

Oh yeh, weather was very nice all day. I think it was about 75 F here, and from the forecast that will be the coolest day we will see in the next week or two. Forecast for the St George area is in the 90's all week.

Well here we are again

Here we are again, travelling south. Taking the motorhome to St George, Utah where we plan to put it in a storage lot until we come down after Christmas. Had to come to Edm for a meeting for Dave, so after that was done, just kept going.

Made it to Milk River on day 1, Thursday. Coming down hwy 2 south of Red Deer, they were putting rock chips & tar in road cracks. Despite the slower speeds posted, we got 2 rocks in the windshield both of which started to run within a few miles. One is now about a foot long, the other about 6 inches. (:>(( This is not my happy face! Just hope we make it to Phoenix before we need to replace it. Other than that & killing our share of bugs, the trip went pretty well. This thing really does get a lot of bugs.

This morning we got thru the border early, managed to pick up 2 very nice bottles of scotch. It was windy most of the day. Stopped in Shelby, Montana for fuel & then on south via I-15 through Elk Park pass. This is some of the most scenic part of the entire trip & it did not disappoint us. Stopped in Dillon, Montana at a very nice rv park where we are spending the night. Tomorrow will be on thru the dreaded Monida pass & into Idaho & likely Utah.
